Disregarding the fact that finding 6 eager friends that are willing to set aside an entire day (and then some) to play a full game. But it is really worth it, so if anyone is willing, please do get in touch. As I am always on the lookout for people to to play a little (long) game.

Yes, as said in previous post, I am a Linux. Have been for a few years now. And never looked back. I am bemused by those that stick to this ONE system rule. There is no absolute when it comes to operating systems. They all stink, reek and are full of hicks and bumps in the most annoying places. What I like about my Ubuntu is that I can fix those that I find, or easily work around them. In any case this post is not be about OSes but about the game(s) I play. It all started quite some time ago. Sports Interactive and Eidos where still friends back then. And every year, these two friends would publish a new version of my beloved Championship Manager. My affair with this game started back in the very beginning, in 1993. In any case this post, against all odds, is NOT about this marvel of a game, but about gaming as such. Gaming within Linux environment. Running Football Manager 2009 in Ubuntu as such, proved not to be too much of a hassle. I installed Steam through WIne, and with the help of the appdb and winetricks I was up and running. Much of the same for Civilization 4 (all extension packs), Hoimeworld 2, Battlefield (multiple versions) and quite a few other games. But I have one thing about all of these games that really get me going, I need to run them through wine. And my simple question is why. Why do I need to emulate the system I am trying to get away from, to play a bit. For all games but a few that is. One of them I am playing, and will play until something else comes along. I am writing about Enemy Territory Quake Wars, to my knowledge the only big budget game that, from day one was available for Linux as well. Most of these games are written in their own frameworks. Often in Languages running on all platforms, be it Microsoft or Unix based systems like OSX or Linux. Why aren’t Linux packages a part of major companies product line. There are enough users out there, I am sure make it worth the one extra developer that will be needed to make this happen….

I am a Linux, and I want to play…too
